HIVEBOXX SUSTAINABILITY + MISSION

The next life
of a HiveBoxx.

A reusable box is designed to come back for another move. Here’s the loop, the facts behind it and the record we’ll need to show what’s happening.

Keep the good things moving.

THE REUSE LOOP

One box.
More chapters.

Each stage has a job.
Each completed stage needs a record.

01

Deliver.

Record the bins actually handed over for a move.

02

Pack + move.

The customer uses the bins for their move.

03

Collect.

Record the bins actually received back.

04

Prepare again.

Confirm inspection, cleaning and a ready-for-rental state.

Proposed measurement rules: matched delivery and return records establish a rental cycle. Stable bin IDs are required to count repeat cycles.

THE FACTS BEHIND REUSE

A little context.
A clearer picture.

Useful measurement principles.
No borrowed impact numbers.

01

Actual uses matter.

In the EU food-packaging systems studied by JRC, performance depends on achieved uses and the way the reuse system is run.

04

Reduce. Reuse. Keep going.

EPA puts reducing materials and reusing products at the top of its waste-management hierarchy, with decisions suited to the material and circumstances.

These sources inform the approach. The JRC study examines EU food-packaging systems, not HiveBoxx moving bins. No study result is presented as a measured HiveBoxx outcome or an endorsement.

OUR RENTAL ACTIVITY

Real moves.
Real records.

These totals will come from validated fulfillment
and return records. They’re unavailable for now.

Awaiting verified rental data

No sample totals. A booking alone does not count as a delivered, returned or reused bin.

How the feed will work ↓
01 / FULFILLMENT

Fulfilled rentals

—Unavailable

Rentals whose delivery is recorded complete. Test, unfulfilled and canceled-before-delivery bookings are excluded.

02 / HANDOVER

Bins delivered

—Unavailable

Large + XL bins actually handed over, after recorded corrections. Not the cart quantity.

03 / RETURN

Bins received back

—Unavailable

Actual received quantities. A scheduled pickup does not establish a return.

04 / READY AGAIN

Bins prepared again

—Unavailable

Returned bins with inspection, cleaning and restock completion recorded during the period. This is not current stock availability.

A STRONGER REUSE MEASURE

Completed repeat rental cycles

A second or later completed rental cycle for the same physical bin. This requires stable IDs and matched delivery/return history.

—Unavailable

These are operational activity measures. They do not, by themselves, establish waste or greenhouse-gas savings. Counts in the same reporting month may relate to different rental cohorts.

BEFORE WE CLAIM A SAVING

A number needs
a method.

NOT ESTIMATED

Cardboard waste avoided

We need evidence of the packing materials a customer would otherwise have used, including size, weight and reuse. One rented bin is not automatically one new cardboard box avoided.

NOT MODELED

CO₂e difference

We need comparable life-cycle scenarios covering manufacture, delivery and collection, cleaning, repeat uses, losses, replacements and end of life.

Any future environmental estimate must carry its assumptions, reporting period, geography, data coverage, uncertainty and model version. Comparison principles: GHG Protocol, chapters 6 and 11 ↗

HOW THE NUMBERS WILL UPDATE

From a real event
to a clear total.

Future integration design.
No production feed is connected yet.

1

Read actual events.

Delivery confirmations, received returns and ready-for-rental records. Booking requests stay outside these totals.

2

Validate the record.

Match identities, reject duplicate events, apply corrections and check reporting-window completeness.

3

Publish aggregates.

Update verified totals with a period, timestamp and method version. Keep customer and address data out of the report.

What makes a total publishable?
  • A validated source and a complete, explicit reporting window
  • Actual quantities, stable event IDs and correction/reversal handling
  • Separate Large and XL units, with no capacity-equivalence assumption
  • Physical bin identities and matched delivery/return history before repeat-cycle counts appear
  • Unavailable fields stay unavailable; missing data never becomes zero
  • Returns and return rates use a documented cohort, not unrelated monthly totals

This draft keeps every rental activity total unavailable. The source contract is prepared for a future validated integration. No rental activity data feed is connected to this design draft.

OUR BEE. OUR MISSION.

A fresh start.
A record of new work.

Mission updates are written and reviewed.
Rental totals cannot author a mission story.

A note on our mission roots

Seattle roots. Family-owned.

HiveBoxx began in Seattle in 2013. We’re a family-owned business built around reusable moving boxes and a more practical way to move.
